「天空の城ラピュタ」では、パズーとシータの屋根の上の出会いのシーンで、手のひらのパンクズを鳩たちについばまれて、自然に心を開いていくシータの笑顔を、演出の私があきれるほどの原画枚数をかけて仕上げてきました。三秒間のカットです。重要なカットとはいっても、ひとつのカットだけがまわりから突出してしまうことは、全体の流れを損なう危険があって、演出としてはためらうことがあります。けれども、シータと鳩のカットには、実際に手のひらで、鳩にエサをやった経験のある者にしか描けない実感がこめられていました。結果としてそのカットは、シータというヒロインの性格を象徴するとともに、少女と少年の出会いのシークエンス全体を間違いなく豊かにしていました。（宮崎駿「二木さんのこと」、二木真希子「世界の真ん中の木」より）
